People purchasing parking tickets in Oban are being offered half price entry to a local tourist attraction – which closed two years ago.
Bus driver Simon Taylor, 35, noticed the mistake when he visited Ganavan beach and parked in Argyll and Bute Council’s public car park.
On the back of the ticket was the ad for the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary – described as “only 15 minutes from Oban,” and “Scotland’s favourite wildlife attraction”.
However, the once popular tourist hotspot closed in October 2018.
Mr Taylor said: “It closed a couple of years ago. It just amused the heck out of me. I shared it partly for a laugh, but also, it is an appalling message to send out to tourists.
“I can imagine if someone headed out to Barcaldine to visit they would be very disappointed.
“I believe someone else got a similar one when they parked at the Corran Halls.
“It’s just one of those things, it seems so obvious to make sure the advertisements on your parking tickets are up to date.
“I hope the council get their act together because this is just complete ineptitude.”
A spokeswoman for the council said: “The tickets described are old stock. We thank members of the public for pointing out that they are still in circulation and we will have them removed from our parking machines as soon as possible.”
The Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary entertained tourists for around 40 years, but dwindling visitor numbers led to owners Merlin Entertainments saying they could not sustain the necessary investment required to keep it open.
