Thoughtless individuals are putting public workers at risk in Argyll by illegally dumping their rubbish.
Argyll and Bute Council said it is working hard to deliver as many of the normal services as possible and is grateful to the vast majority of the public who are supporting the efforts.
But they say a minority are putting council workers and their communities at risk through irresponsible behaviour.
Mounds of rubbish were fly-tipped at the Stag car park in Lochgilphead recently.
Glass bottles were left stacked at the public recycling point, despite the fact there was an almost-empty mixed glass collection skip a few feet away, and bags of general waste were left strewn across the ground.
Councillor Robin Currie said: “Our staff will have to wear full PPE to protect themselves from possible infection and cuts as they remove this rubbish – wasting time and resources we don’t have at the moment.
“If employees become injured or ill, that threatens our ability to deliver the services communities need.
“Fly-tipping anywhere is not only unacceptable, it is also an offence.”
The council is emptying public recycling collections points – for glass, plastic and cardboard – every four weeks, and more often if possible.
People using them are asked to respect social distancing measures and check national guidance at www.nhsinform.scot on keeping safe.
If the recycling points are full, people are asked to take their materials home with them and try again later.
Household bins are being emptied every two weeks and recycling and general waste will be collected at the same time. The public is asked to put out up to two bins on the day that they would normally put out the recycling.
