A motorist stopped on the M74 near Lockerbie for speeding at 117 miles an hour was found not to be wearing any shoes.
The explanation given by Srikanth Papineni was that he had struck his foot on something and was finding it unacceptable to drive with his shoes on.
And at Dumfries Sheriff Court yesterday, 30-year-old Papineni, from Hardgate, Aberdeen, admitted a charge of driving at 117 mph on the southbound lane of the motorway in April with limited control of the vehicle.
A solicitor said Papineni had been travelling south to Warrington to visit relatives and when stopped had been trying to reach a service area.
Sheriff George Jamieson said that since Papineni had no previous record he wouldn’t disqualify him, but fined him £500 and endorsed his licence with 8 penalty points.
