SNP Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has sparked a row by posting a Tweet in which he compared Aberdeenshire Council’s bid to collect the poll tax to tactics used by southern states during the American civil war.
And the Scottish Liberal Democrats are calling for an apology.
The party’s justice spokeswoman Alison McInnes MSP said: “For Scotland’s justice secretary to compare this to landmark efforts to secure equal rights is equally insulting to the civil rights movement and to Scotland’s councils.
“People expect and deserve better.
“Kenny MacAskill must apologise for this ill-judged late night tweet.”
