A number of emergency service heroes have been recognised at a special awards ceremony for Scottish Ambulance Service staff in the north of Scotland.
Colin Gough, a national systems trainer, won the staff member of the year award in recognition of his contribution to the development of a new patient transport service system at Inverness Ambulance Control Centre.
The chief executive’s special award was given to Antonio Pinto, who is a specialist cleaning operative responsible for keeping Inverness station and its ambulances in immaculate condition.
Carloway First Responders, based on the west coast of Lewis, won the team of the year award in recognition of their dedication and commitment in serving the local community.
The team works closely with SAS staff in Stornoway and Barvas and as first responders, the team provides an invaluable community service, responding quickly to 999 calls to provide early care while the ambulance is on its way.
Pauline Howie, chief executive, Scottish Ambulance Service, said: “Many of the awards this year recognise those who work vital supporting roles, ensuring that our frontline services continue to operate at the highest standard.
“All of the entrants have been nominated by their peers and it is humbling to hear their stories, which are a reminder of the difference that they make to people’s lives every day. Today our staff are working harder than ever, at times in the most challenging of situations. They are an absolute credit to the Scottish Ambulance Service and NHS Scotland.
