Aberdeenshire maths teacher Pat Flanagan has been elected the new vice-president of Scotland’s largest teachers union.
The current EIS Aberdeenshire branch secretary, he joined the union in 1995 having retrained as a teacher after a career in industry.
Mr Flanagan has been a teacher at Fraserburgh, Ellon and Meldrum academies. He is a long-serving member of the national EIS council and has served on numerous committees including the employment relations committee of which he is convener.
“I have been active in the EIS since coming to teaching as a late entrant,” he said.
“It is a considerable honour to take up post as vice president of the EIS and I am fully aware of the responsibility particularly in these challenging times for Scottish education.”
