Singing Kettle anyone? There’s one on eBay for nearly £2,000!

Spout, handle, lid of metal - how much would you pay for a Singing Kettle?
Spout, handle, lid of metal - how much would you pay for a Singing Kettle?

If one of your childhood dreams was to own an authentic singing kettle once donned by Artie and Cilla, it could well come true.

But there’s a catch — it will cost you nearly £2,000!

The popular children’s entertainers have placed one of the original famous kettles on an online auction site where the current bid sits at £1,700.

Artie Trezise put the iconic prop on eBay on Sunday afternoon with a bargain start price of 99p — and its value continues to increase.

The item description of the much wanted item says that the blue piece of theatrical history was one of the first used on the programme.

The husband and wife led performance group said they “couldn’t believe” so many people wanted to own their well loved stage accessory.

Artie said: “It quickly went ballistic.

“My phone kept ringing with all the bids going through.

“Within 20 minutes it was up to £600!”

But bidders may be disappointed to find that there’s nothing actually inside this particular singing kettle, but its size might make it a handy storage box.

Archie added: “It would make a great toy box as it’s 78cm high to the top of the handle.”

Artie Trezise and and his wife Cilla Fisher from Kingskettle in Fife retired from the group they established in 1982 two years ago.

It continued to run with two other long-term cast members, Kevin Macleod, Gary Coupland and, most recently, Anya Scott-Rodgers.

Last year the musical act announced the Christmas tour, which ends in Aberdeen next month, would be the last and the current trio will work on a new show called Funbox.

A red “regular” size Singing Kettle is also up for sale alongside  a Singing Kettle carrot of Bunny Fou Fou, Singing Kettle giraffe hat from Boogie Woogie Zoo, a magic hat from Magic Shop and the pink sheep from Funny Farm.

Cilla said it was not their intention to sell everything and they hoped to establish a Singing Kettle touring exhibition.

She added: “It’s a chance to own something unusual and I can’t quite believe the level of interest so far.

“All good things come to an end but we hope the Singing Kettle legacy will continue.”
