Dramatic footage has emerged of the rescue of five Irish fishermen from their sinking vessel north of the Western Isles.
The sailors were airlifted from the Irish registered trawler Iuda Naofa 48 miles north of the Butt of Lewis after the boat began to take on water.
Video taken from Stornoway Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter shows a crewman being winched aboard, while debris from the boat floats in the ocean below.
The five fishermen were taken to the Western Isles General Hospital in Stornoway where they are being treated for mild hypothermia.
Coastguard Duty Watch Manager, Paul Tunstall said: “The weather conditions on scene were very rough seas with southerly force 6 winds, evacuating the five crew swiftly and safely before the vessel went down was a great achievement.”
