Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle has donated £5,000 to a food bank that was raided by callous thieves.
The food bank, in Glasgow’s Maryhill was raising funds for a young hit-and-run victim, however, over the weekend thieves broke in and stole thousands of pounds worth of cash, food, vouchers and clothing, valued at around £5,000.
Some of the stolen money had been put aside to send Chelsea Sommerville and her family abroad after the 10-year-old suffered a broken leg in a hit-and-run which killed her friend in November.
After an emotional plea from Julie Webster, who runs the charity, donations have flooded in, including a £5,000 cheque from the comedian this morning and a further £5,000 authorised by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon from the welfare budget.
