An pensioner endured a “terrifying ordeal” when he was robbed by an armed intruder who broke into his bedroom.
The 81-year-old woke at 3am yesterday to find a man brandishing a knife standing at the bottom of his bed.
The robber was holding the pensioner’s bank card and demanded the pin number.
When the victim told him he did not know it, the intruder threatened him, saying that there was another man downstairs who would assault him.
The suspect eventually left the house with cash and the bank card, although he did not have the pin number.
Police appealed for information about the incident, which happened in Gardiner Street in Prestwick, South Ayrshire.
Detective Constable David Gray said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for an elderly man who has been left extremely shaken.
“He told us that he was in such a state of shock and fear that he genuinely could not remember his pin number when the man demanded it.
“It is of utmost importance that we trace the individuals responsible for this as soon as possible and I would ask anyone who was in the area at this time to consider whether they saw anyone acting suspiciously.”
The suspect is described as white, about 6ft, thin and wearing dark clothing. He also spoke with a local accent.
