Loganair has been named regional airline of the year at the 2022 World Aviation Awards for Excellence in Gibraltar.
Scotland’s national airline was applauded for its vast network of flights operating across the UK and overseas and its excellent service.
It operates more than 70 routes, including to major cities like London and Dublin as well as island communities on Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides.
Its connectivity has expanded in the past year with routes between Scotland and Norway as well as celebrating its 60th Anniversary.
Loganair also has the distinction of operating the shortest commercial flight in the world and the only flight to land on a beach runway at Barra Airport.
Due to its vast reach as a regional airline, it has scooped the title of Regional Airline of the Year awarded by the Centre for Aviation (CAPA).
‘A testament to the hard work and dedication’
Officials praised the airline for its vast reach and the management of its “complex network of services”.
Its ability to quickly serve communities who rely on flights following the collapse of other airlines was also commended.
The carrier has been majority owned by two brothers, helicopter entrepreneurs Stephen and Peter Bond, since 2012.
Recently following a boost in profits, its owners put it up for sale in October, wanting the “next generation” to take the airline forward.
Jonathan Hinkles, chief executive of Loganair, said: “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication that the entire Loganair team have shown over the last year as we emerge from the challenges of the pandemic.
“We are very grateful for the recognition of our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to deliver for our customers this year and in the years ahead.”
