It’s been billed as one of the most spectacular showings of the Northern Lights.
But bad weather and poor visibility has crushed many stargazers dreams of catching a glimpse of the spectacle so far tonight.
However, snatches of the Aurora borealis have been captured at various spots across the north of Scotland – and those lucky enough to witness it have been capturing the magical moment.
Reports suggest that the Northern Lights have been active across Moray.
Sigma – Moray’s Astronomy Club posted this colourful picture, taken of the sky across Spey Bay.
One member said: “The Northern Lights are still active with pulsating arcs overhead and ray and bright blanket to the north.
“Patience is the order of the night while waiting for breaks in the mist/fog.”
And on Twitter, fellow Moray snapper Forevermore Photos posted this stunning image, taken in Cummingston.
Others said they could see the spectacle over Fochabers and Burghead.
In Stromness, Orkney, Ian Garman captured this stunning picture of the Aurora borealis.
And at Callanish, on the west of the Isle of Lewis, photographer CallanishDD captured this amazing sight.
