Scotland could be treated to a short heatwave following a tropical storm that is set to batter the country over the next few days.
High winds and heavy rain have been forecast across Scotland over today, tomorrow and the weekend due to Tropical Storm Bill sweeping across the nation.
But later on next week the Met Office have predicted a short heatwave to push up across the English Channel to mainland Britain.
The Met Office has predicted highs of 30C for central and south-east England, with similar weather north of the border.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Very high temperatures are expected on the continent, Spain is likely to get into the 40s next week.
“That could rise up, giving us warm temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“There’s a low probability along the south coast of temperatures in the high 20s and maybe even hitting 30C.
“Even Scotland could see temperatures in the mid 20s. It will be humid and sticky.”
But after the brief stint of warm weather, rainstorms have also been predicted for next weekend.
