Tributes are being paid to a father who died when his car left a busy motorway.
John Yuill was found dead this morning alongside his critically injured partner, Lamara Bell, in a Renault Clio which had left the M9 near Stirling.
Miss Bell, 25, has been taken to the Southern General hospital in Glasgow, where she is in a critical condition.
Police Scotland revealed tonight that the one car collision had been reported to them on Sunday morning, but had not been followed up.
An investigation is underway as to why Sunday’s call was not investigated “at the time”.
Police had been searching for the couple since Sunday, releasing numerous missing person alerts to the public and media as it appealed for information about their whereabouts.
Officers said John Yuill and Lamara Bell had last been seen in the company of friends on the south shore of Loch Earn area of Stirlingshire in the early hours of that day.
They said the couple had not been in contact with friends and family, which was “completely out of character”.
Tributes have flooded in on social media sites for Mr Yuill, who is understood to have been a father-of-two.
Martin Kelly said: “RIP wee fella. Heartbreaking news.”
Lesley Forsyth said: “John, can’t believe am having to write this. My thoughts go out to all your family and your kids and friends.”
Friends and family had also posted on Mr Yuill’s social media site earlier this week, urging him and Miss Bell to come home.
Sabrina Wilson said: “John if you see this please just go home. Think of the kids – Lamara’s aswell. This isn’t fair on them or any of your family.
“If you don’t want to go home just contact someone and let them know you are both OK.”
