A woman who lay injured in a car for three days after police did not respond to the initial 101 call has died in hospital.
Lamara Bell, 25, was critically injured in the crash on Sunday, but she and her partner John Yuill pair were only discovered by officers on Wednesday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and she was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University hospital.
Police have confirmed they received a call late on Sunday morning about a Renault Clio which had gone off the road on the M9 near Stirling, but the report was not followed up.
An investigation has been launched to discover why police did not attend the scene.
Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson, of Local Policing East, said:
“It has come to light that a call was made to police late on Sunday morning regarding a car which was reported as being off the road.
“For reasons currently being investigated, that report was not followed up at the time.”
