Delivery of thousands of copies of The Press and Journal has been delayed after a fatal accident on the A90 this morning.
A male pedestrian, who was reportedly naked at the time of the incident, was hit by a car travelling behind the P&J lorry after the lorry driver swerved to avoid him.
The fatal smash happened on the Aberdeen-Dundee road at Stracathro around 2.30am.
A stretch of the dual carriageway was shut between the B966 turn-off for Edzell at Keithock and the B974 Luthermuir road following the accident.
The Press and Journal editor-in-chief Damian Bates, said: “Following a tragic incident on the A90 this morning involving a lorry carrying Press and Journals – delivery of our newspapers has been significantly delayed.
“Our driver swerved to avoid a person running across the road. Sadly the car behind hit the person, who died at the scene.
“Our lorry driver stopped to help and assist police with their investigation into the death which has meant our papers have not yet reached Aberdeenshire or north-east edition areas.
“We have re-printed around 25,000 newspapers in an effort to get them out to our readers as soon as we can.
“I apologise for the delay in delivery of The Press and Journal this morning but I hope our readers can understand the exceptional circumstances under which we find ourselves.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the person killed in this tragic accident.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police can confirm that sadly a man has died following a road traffic collision at Stracathro on the A90.
“No further details are available until next of kin have been informed.”
