The Royal Navy ‘capability demonstration’ will see marines take part in a landing at the seaside town of Ayr on Saturday. Police have lodged objections to the marines carrying weapons during the display. Royal Marines practice a water-borne assault on the West Coast. South Ayrshire Council will decide later whether to uphold or reject the move. The airshow and other parts of the ground-based entertainment programme are otherwise unaffected. The event at Ayr and Prestwick is taking place on Saturday September 5 and Sunday September 6. Both days are expected to attract more than 50,000 spectators.
