Disruption on a  Scottish railway will continue until the end of service this evening after a train collided with what is understood to be a pick up truck on the tracks.

Police, ambulance and fire teams were called to the scene of the smash on close to Uphill Station in West Lothian after the 4.39pm service collided with the vacant vehicle on the tracks.

British Transport Police have confirmed that one passenger on the train received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

A statement from the BTP said: “Officers are currently at the location with colleagues from Police Scotland and the ambulance and fire services.

“One passenger on board the train is reported to have received minor injuries.

“We are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, including how the vehicle came to be on the tracks.”

ScotRail have recently posted on social media that disruption from the incident will continue throughout the night.

Kevin Lindsay, the Scottish secretary of ASLEF, the train drivers union, has been posting updates on social media through the night.

Mr Lindsay said that the driver of the train is upset, but “doing fine”, and that the vehicle involved in the incident was a pick-up truck.

Mr Lindsay also went on to say: “Rumours that the Uphall train crash was caused by an act of vandalism. Kids seen running away before the pickup ended up on the track.”
