Two schools in Kirkcaldy have been placed in “lockdown” following reports of a serious incident in the town.
Police are currently investigating reports that the armed robbers targeted the Bank of Scotland in Kirkcaldy and, as a precaution, pupils at the nearby Kircaldy High School and St Marie’s Primary School are being kept inside.
A police helicopter is currently flying overhead, while a large number of officers have been joined by the bomb disposal unit at the scene.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife are in attendance following reports of an armed robbery at a bank on the Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy.
“No-one has been injured in the incident.
“Inquiries are at an early stage.”
A message sent from the Kirkcaldy High School to concerned parents read: “Due to a serious incident in the community, the school has been placed on “lockdown” by the police. All pupils and staff are safe but we cannot leave the building.”
