School pupils are now being allowed to return home following a major incident in a Fife town.
This afternoon police were called to reports of an armed robbery at a bank in Fife, with unconfirmed reports that a man was claiming to have a bomb strapped to his body.
Officers went to the scene at Mitchelston Industrial Estate in Kirkcaldy this afternoon and were joined by experts from the bomb squad.
Two nearby schools were locked down, with pupils kept inside Kircaldy High School and St Marie’s Primary School, however, they have now been allowed to return home.
Inquiries into the incident, which is ongoing, are at an early stage.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife are in attendance following reports of an armed robbery at a bank on the Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy.
“No-one has been injured in the incident. Inquiries are at an early stage.”
