A council boss has been fined for urinating in the street just weeks after he was involved in the closure of nearby public toilets.
Jackie Burns, deputy leader of South Lanarkshire Council, was caught in the act in Hamilton and handed a £40 fixed penalty notice by police on Saturday night.
Just five months ago the Labour councillor oversaw the closure of the public toilets – a decision he said was a result of government spending cuts.
The councillor’s indirection was seen by police in a lane near the Hamilton Palace nightclub.
Cllr Burns, who represents Larkhall, has said he was embarrassed by the incident and has apologised for his actions, however, opposition politicians have called on him to consider his position.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed: “A 51-year-old man was issued with a fixed penalty ticket in relation to a minor act of anti-social behaviour within Hamilton town centre on Saturday 7 November.
