This afternoon promises to bring the first snow of the winter to large parts of Scotland, with the white stuff expected to land in the north-east at 4pm.
The Met Office has said a band of rain, sleet and snow will move south across northern and eastern Scotland this afternoon, with 1-4cm of snow expected to fall in the Granite City from 4pm onwards.
The snow will mainly affect higher ground at first, but by tonight up to four centimetres could fall at lower levels across the north of Scotland.
The Met Office has warned of difficult driving conditions and possible travel disruption, with gritters expected to be deployed across Scotland.
A Met Office spokesman in Aberdeen said: “I think it will be more than a dusting of snow on Friday, in fact there will be a reasonable amount by our predictions.
“There will be a spread of snow blown by the wind particularly in eastern areas.
“By Friday night we should see snow at sea levels and by Saturday we will definitely be turning white.

“Moray will be less affected but there still should be some (snow). Basically, the further west the better for avoiding the snow.
“The Highlands will be much like Moray.
“But we will be seeing some snow coming in on the mountains with areas of Caithness and Sutherland getting some lying.”
The cold snap will last into Sunday, however the winds will become westerly from the beginning of next week and things should become more bearable.
