He was cut free from the wreckage of his Skoda car by firefighters but was sadly pronounced dead at the roadside a short time later. The 65 year old man, who has not been identified, was driving between Forfar and Brechin when the collision took place near to the Careston junction. A 30-year-old female passenger in the car was taken to Ninewells hospital in Dundee but was not thought to be seriously injured. The lorry driver, believed to be from Aberdeeenshire, escaped unhurt.
