Scotland Office minister Andrew Dunlop has hailed a £50million initiative to secure the north-east’s future a “shining example” of public and private sectors working together.
The Tory peer praised the newly-launched Opportunity North East (One) project, backed by tycoon Sir Ian Wood.
It aims to keep the oil and gas flowing as long as possible, but build a post-oil future for the area by boosting other sectors as well.
ONE board members Colin Crosby, Patrick Machray, Jennifer Craw, Professor Stephen Logan and Sir Ian Wood.
Lord Dunlop also confirmed work was continuing on the City Region Deal.
He said: “Sir Ian Wood is showing wonderful leadership with his latest initiative in the north-east.
“Not for the first time, he is investing his time, energy and money into trying to improve the lives of the people in the Aberdeen area.
“One is a shining example of the way the public and private sectors should combine their efforts to improve the opportunities of people in a given area.
“It makes sense to diversify the north-east economy and look to a world beyond oil, while trying to prolong that sector for as long as possible.
“Government at a local, Scottish and UK level need to work with those in the private sector if we are to achieve the best results.”
