Police Scotland said the grim discovery was made close to the B7015, near Blackburn. Forensic investigators are now working in the area and police have yet to confirm if the remains are human. A Police spokesman said: “A rural area near to West Calder has been cordoned off after concerns were raised by a dog walker on Thursday 17 December. “Items have been found which are believed to be remains of some type. “Inquiries are at an early stage and expert assessment will be made in due course to establish what has been found and the circumstances.”
