A baby girl has tragically died after being taken into hospital following an incident in Fife at the weekend.
Police have confirmed Hayley Davidson died at the Sick Kids hospital in Edinburgh.
She had been under the care of medics since Sunday after the emergency services were alerted following the incident, which left her with critical injuries.
Police cordoned off the flat at West High Street, Buckhaven, Leven, at around 12.30pm on Sunday.
In a statement released by the police, her family said: “Hayley is a beautiful baby girl who was loved by everyone who met her and we, as a family, wish to be left alone to grieve at this difficult and trying time.”
A police spokesperson said: “A thorough and rigourous investigation is ongoing as officers progress with inquiries into Hayley’s death. A post mortem examination is to be arranged.”
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, local commander who is based at Levenmouth police station, added: “This is an extremely tragic and sensitive case and I’d like to reassure Hayley’s family as well as the wider community that we’re conducting a robust investigation and appreciate the assistance provided.”
