Police have launched a murder investigation after confirming that the body found in Clydebank yesterday was that of missing teenager Paige Doherty.
The family of the 15-year-old launched an appeal after she failed to arrive at her part-time job on Saturday.
She was last seen at around 8.15am when the teenager is thought to have been headed to a bus stop to travel to the hairdressers where she worked in Kirkintilloch, around 12 miles away.
At 12.45pm on Monday police were called after a body was discovered in a wooded area behind a path off Great Western Road, Clydebank. Today DSI Duncan Sloan confirmed that the body was Paige.
On Saturday morning she left a friend’s house in Angus Street in the Whitecrook area of Clydebank and walked her usual route through Wood Quadrant and went to Delicious Deli on Fleming Avenue.
Paige’s mother Pamela Munro issued a statement her Facebook page, thanking those who helped with the search for her daughter.
She said: “Myself and Andy Munro would like to thank everyone for their support and help in trying to find our daughter.
“Unfortunately we can confirm that it is our beautiful girl Paige who was found in Clydebank.
“Again thank u for all ur support. I am seeing everyone’s messages but understandably we’ve a lot on our minds n can’t reply.”
