Scotland has been named as among the top places to sea kayak in the world – partly because paddlers are never far from a pub!
Leading travel guide Wanderlust said it was the best place on the planet for “budding adventurers” and singled out the “startlingly blue seas of the Western Isles….as a revelation.”
“Scotland is the perfect place for more adventurous paddles – the sea is rich in wildlife, there are plenty of islands to explore and you’re never far from a local pub and a wee dram or two!” said Wanderlust.
“The wide, sandy beaches and startlingly blue seas of the Western Isles come as a revelation to many visitors. A good option is the coastline of West Lewis where you’ll spot seabirds, seal and, with luck, whales and dolphins.”
Wanderlust compiled a list of the world’s best places to go sea kayaking It said the best all-rounder was New Zealand, the tops for ultimate adventure was the High Arctic, the best for warm water was Fiji and the tops for scenery was south-east Alaska.
