Police have named the man killed in a crash involving a car and a heavy agricultural vehicle which was towing a digger.
Francis Thomas Mooney, 60, died after his car was involved in the collision.
The 25-year-old male driver of the agricultural vehicle remains at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff describe his condition as stable.
Five cars and a bus were also involved in the incident on Tuesday morning however nobody else was seriously injured and none of the vehicles were badly damaged.
Police have not revealed details of the nature of the incident but reports have suggested the digger toppled and landed on top of the car.
Police Scotland said the emergency services were called to the crash in Fernhill Road at around 11.05am.
The man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene, officers later confirmed.
The male driver of the agricultural vehicle was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious.
The bus and the five other cars which were also involved in the incident were not badly damaged, police said.
Sergeant Alison McAuley from the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of this tragic incident and I would continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell on 101.”
