A body has been recovered after a car plunged into the River Clyde, sources said.
The incident happened near Lapwing Road in Renfrew at about 1.20pm.
A person was trapped in the vehicle and emergency services were called to the scene, which was close to Intu Braehead shopping centre.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland and the UK Coastguard are all in attendance.
Eyewitness Meriel Kerr posted on Facebook: “A horrible accident just happened right next to clyde view park. I think a car has gone in the Clyde.
“There’s boats, helicopters, fire engines, the lot. I don’t know what is happening but I have my fingers crossed for all involved.”
Another eyewitness said: “Our flat is just by the river where it all happened. At first I heard a lot of commotion and went to check what was happening.
“There were two ambulances, a couple of fire engines and maybe six or seven police cars. It looks like the coastguard are in the river as well.
“All the cars parked nearby were smashed, it looks as if a car or something has crashed into them then gone into the river.
“Apparently there’s a young girl being treated in one of the ambulances but I think the fire crews and coastguard are still trying to locate the car in the water.
“I’m not sure but I think there could be someone still in the car.”
