Eye witnesses north of Dundee have described the conditions as an “absolute nightmare” with northbound traffic not moving at all, while southbound traffic is moving but at a very slow pace due to a number of accidents.

The whole of the UK has been placed on a yellow “severe” weather warning by the Met Office.
The forecaster is warning of snow and ice in Grampian and the Highlands and Islands.
Orkney and Shetland are the only parts of the UK not covered by the weather warning.
