A north-east man was clocked undertaking two cars at 98mph on one of the region’s busiest roads.
Christopher Golding was spotted performing the illegal move in his Audi TT “at excessive speeds” by police on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road at Gaughhill, near Kintore.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, the 23-year-old admitted driving with undue care and attention, and moving past other vehicles whilst in the inside lane of the A96 on February 3 this year.
Golding, of Cairn Road, Bieldside, was caught by officers carrying out speed checks on the busy route.
Fiscal depute Cheryl Clark said he was “behind two motor cars before moving into lane one onto the A96 and undertaking these two vehicles”.
She added: “The speed detected at that time was 98mph as he completed the undertaking. He was then stopped by officers.”
Defence solicitor, Peter Shepherd, said Golding had recently lost his job in the oil industry and had been forced to sell on his Audi as he could “no longer afford” it.
He added his client’s “standard of driving will definitely have improved”, having since been through a driver learning course since the incident.
Sheriff Christine McCrossan gave Golding six penalty points and fined him £300.
