Motorists taking to the north-east’s busiest road are being hit with another temporary speed restriction.
The limit on a 650-yard section of the A90 Aberdeen to Fraserburgh road – which was cut from 70mph to 50mph in August – is now dropping to just 40mph.
The speed restriction will be enforced on the route between Bridgend and the B9000 Tipperty to Oldmeldrum Road from tonight (Fri) at 8pm for about four months.
The measure has been taken to allow utility works to be undertaken as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) / Balmedie to Tipperty project.
Ellon and District Conservative councillor Gillian Owen said: “This is not a surprise as we were made aware that this would be the case. I am concerned the 50mph is not being adhered to. I doubt there will be anybody policing it.
“It has to happen because the workers have to be protected. I urge drivers to be considerate in regard to the workers carrying out this crucial task.”
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The speed restriction for a short 600m section between Bridgend and B9000 will be reduced further to 40mph for around four months to ensure the safety of road workers, who may be working adjacent to or beneath the road, and road users while utility works are undertaken nearby.
“We would encourage road users to apply more caution than usual when driving through or nearby this section of the A90.”
Average speed cameras were installed on the A90 between Balmedie and Blackdog to enforce a 50mph speed limit there, with more now being installed at Charleston.
Traffic lights have also been put in place at Balmedie as work to build a flyover is carried out.
In August, a further 50mph restriction was introduced between the Ellon bypass and Murcar roundabouts to further safeguard AWPR workers.
