Councillors have approved a series of parking and traffic changes in a north-east harbour.
The alterations agreed by the Banff and Buchan area committee yesterday include creating a “no-waiting” zone around Macduff harbour.
The aim of preventing vehicles from waiting around the Low Shore junctions with both Laing Street and Gellymill Street is to reduce “inconsiderate parking” which hampers traffic flow in the harbour area.
The speed limit in the coastal town’s Melrose Crescent will also be cut to 20mph.
One local resident, who did not wish to be named, submitted a formal objection against the harbour scheme ahead of yesterday’s meeting.
They said: “The reason for our objection is there is currently a Macduff harbour masterplan being developed which, among other things, was looking at traffic flows, potential road closures and parking in the area.”
However, committee members were told any changes could be taken into account as part of the new masterplan.
Committee chairman John Cox spoke out against the proposals, arguing: “We have to realise this is a working harbour and there has to be loading and unloading. I’d be concerned it would affect the work of the harbour.”
The committee eventually voted in favour of changes, despite Mr Cox’s concerns.
But a proposal to make Water Path in neighbouring Banff a one-way route was dropped.
