A new train station in Moray is on track to open later this year.
Network Rail and Bam Nuttal are working together on the £35million project to create new platforms at Forres.
The scheme will result in a replacement station opening in the town, and a new section of double track is being laid so trains can pass each other.
Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross has visited to see work in progress and said: “The upgrade works between Inverness and Aberdeen will mean significant changes for all the communities serviced by this railway line.
“Increased dual sections, new platforms at some stations and signalling works, I understand these changes will bring great benefits to rail users with longer trains being possible and an increased frequency of services.
“This will be particularly welcome at stations where trains are still stopping at the signal box to hand over a key before continuing the journey.
“The works are at an advanced stage and on schedule for the new station to be open later in 2017.”
