Major overnight road resurfacing work will affect part of Lochaber for the second time in a month.
Work costing £225,000 to improve over half a mile of the busy A82 through Glencoe village begins on Sunday and will last for five nights.
And, while the road will remain open to the majority of vehicles, HGVs and other wide and tall vehicles will face a diversion via the A85 Connel and A828 Ballachulish.
A height restriction of 13 feet nine inches is in place on the Connel Bridge and all HGVs in excess of this will be held on either side of the works at Glencoe Village until safe access through can be arranged.
To ensure the safety of road workers and road users, temporary traffic signals and a 10mph convoy system will be in operation during working hours. These will be removed outwith these hours to keep disruption to a minimum, although a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “The improvements through Glencoe Village will help create a new smooth road surface, repairing any cracks or defects in the road.
“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption as much as possible during this scheme, including scheduling the works to take place overnight and avoiding working on Friday or Saturday nights.
“We’ve also arranged the traffic management to allow the A82 to remain open to light vehicles. We’ve also noted the service bus times and will make ensure that they can safely pass through the improvements with minimal disruption.
“Unfortunately there will be a diversion for HGVs and wider vehicles only.”
The work will take place each night from 7pm until 7am and is expected to finish by Friday, June 23.
The A82 through Glencoe itself was closed overnight to traffic for almost two weeks in May to allow resurfacing work near Tulla Cottage – costing more than £250,000 – to go ahead.
