These images reveal the three potential designs for the long-awaited Laurencekirk flyover.
A public exhibition begins today giving people the chance to view the options available for transforming the notorious junction, on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
Two would mean the existing junction to the south of the town would be replaced by a bridge over the road.
A third would mean realigning the A937 Laurencekirk to Montrose road with a new flyover to the north.
Safety campaigner Jill Fotheringham has been battling for the new measures for more than a decade.
She began her long fight after her friend was killed while trying to cross the junction.
“Back when I started I was hoping we would get here a lot sooner than we have,” she said.
“But any progress is good progress and hopefully this will let people see that action is definitely being taken as opposed to just being fobbed off, which is what happened for many years.
“We were told time and time again that we didn’t need it, so to see us reach this point is amazing.
“As long as we don’t have to use that junction and we have a safe way of crossing the road I don’t mind what design is chosen,” she added.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Humza Yousaf urged as many people as possible to share their views by coming along to the event or looking at the plans online.
He said: “All comments received will be considered as we look to identify a preferred option next year.
“While there is still a lot of essential development work to be carried out, we continue to push forward the design preparation stages to deliver this scheme as soon as possible, which will bring improved road safety and economic benefits to road users and the local community in Laurencekirk and the wider north-east.”
Today’s event is in St Laurence Hall in the town and runs from noon until 7pm.
