The X61 service operating between Ellon and Peterhead burst into flames around 6:45pm near Stirling Village. Fire crews used a hose reel jet and a high pressure lance system to extinguish the flames. A spokeswoman for the service said the stop signal was issued at 7.20pm. The incident blocked the road for almost four hours. A Stagecoach spokeswoman said: “Upon detecting a problem, the driver pulled over and called fire service who attended the scene. “Safety is our absolute priority. We will carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of this incident.” No passengers were on the bus and the driver escaped unscathed.
