The train was stuck between Glenfinnan and Lochailort
A train derailed in the west Highlands following a landslip earlier today.
None of the five passengers on board were injured and the train will not be moved until an investigation is carried out as there are fears of further landslips in the area.
Scotrail has announced that the line will remain closed until Thursday.
The landslip happened between Glenfinnan and Lochailort. Services between Mallaig and Glasgow Queen Street have been cancelled for the day.
The passengers have been collected from the train by a specially adapted Land Rover which can go on the rail tracks.
A replacement bus service is in place between Fort William and Mallaig for the rest of the day. Services from Glasgow to Mallaig will begin and end at Fort William instead.
Services between Mallaig and Glasgow have been cancelled for the day.
Network Rail said tonnes of material had been washed onto the track from the slopes above by the recent extreme weather.
UPDATE: #Glenfinnan: ⚠️ We have staff on site who have assessed the damage, and the line will stay closed until start of service Thursday 25th January.
