Transport bosses are being urged to take swift action to prevent an accident taking place within Inverurie Station’s busy car park.
The rail station was extended last year to include 36 new spaces, using vacant land adjacent to the site.
The car park was closed for much of September to enable Scotrail to carry out resurfacing works.
When the work was finished, however, and the site re-opened, a number of people using the station noticed that new road markings contradicted existing signs.
Councillor Lesley Berry, who represents Inverurie and District, witnessed the risks posed by the mix-up when she visited the station.
One old sign, for example, tells drivers to turn left and join a one-way system while the markings instructs them to go straight ahead.
And when motorists use the old one-way system through the original car park to park outside the station they drive into the wrong lane and into oncoming traffic.

Mrs Berry said there were “cars all over the place”.
“There are two blind corners and people are coming in and out onto the wrong side of the road.
“The car-park is very busy, people are impatient and everyone wants to stop at the main door to pick-up or drop-off friends and family.
“The signage is all wrong and the ‘new system’ isn’t clearly marked.
“I spoke to some taxi drivers and a gentleman manning the ticket office who advised that a give way sign is going up in the old car park but this would not help the problem of the blind bend or people coming through the give way sign onto the right-hand lane.”
Scotrail has now confirmed it plans to remove the old signage next week and replace it with new instructions which correspond with the markings.
As part of the improvement works, new CCTV and lighting were also installed in the car park and on the platforms.
