A north-east train this evening has been cancelled due to “slippery rails”. Commuters arrived at Aberdeen train station to find that the 5.55pm service to Inverurie had been called off. A notice board on the platform said it was “cancelled due to slippery rails.” This is where low grip levels on the tracks can lead train wheels to spin. Slippery rails are most commonly caused by moist leaves which have fallen on the tracks. The train left Edinburgh at 3.31pm and was due to arrive in Inverurie at 6.17pm. Leaves on the line is no laughing matter. Its a serious issue that can affect performance and risk safety. Take 2 minutes to see why we get animated by leaves on the line & what we do to keep trains running in #Autumn More details here https://t.co/8ZD8xF4nfD pic.twitter.com/6UKxcgLJJE — NetworkRail Scotland (@NetworkRailSCOT) October 15, 2018
