A team of tenacious north-east train enthusiasts has come out on top in a nationwide competition.
Aberdeen Model Railway Club has been crowned the victor of the 2018 Great Model Railway Challenge on Channel 5.
The group was tasked with designing and building a brand new layout with a time travel theme in just 24 hours as part of the programme’s grand finale.
Its six members reached the stage after receiving high praise in the heats for Clucas Bay, a creation named after one of their late members.
After lifting the trophy, the group posted a heartfelt message on social media.
It read: “We had an absolutely brilliant time participating in the show.
“There were a lot of nerves beforehand – especially on the 10 hour drive down in the van for day one of filming. But that turned to excitement and determination pretty quickly.
“The show taught us a lot, but mostly that teamwork is key, that the hobby is a brilliant hobby – especially the social aspect – and that it is amazing what you can do in 24 hours.”
The team also received warm words from one of its members’ universities:
Congratulations to chemistry PhD student Ewan Forsyth – part of the Aberdeen Model Railway Club team which won Channel 5's Great Model Railway Challenge. Great layout
