Motoring offenders have been snared by police during a crackdown on speeding and dangerous driving after concerns from the public.
Officers have been out in force in the Formartine area, following calls from the community to clamp down on drivers ignoring the rules of the road.
Two drivers were given fines after they were spotted at 51 miles per hour on a 40mph zone, and 41mph in a 30 respectively.
A number of other motorists were stopped and warned about their driving.
Police have been carrying out speed checks in the area and also pulling drivers over to speak to them if they have been driving in an potentially careless or dangerous manner.
The operation is a partnership between the local policing teams, based at Ellon and Turriff, and the road policing unit.
Inspector Andy Scott from the Formartine local policing team said: “Following a number of public consultations on issues within the area, it was noted that the majority of concerns raised related to speeding and road safety.
“With this in mind, the Formartine local policing team has launched ‘Operation Illustrious’ which aims to proactively tackle road safety within the local area and though a combination of education and enforcement seeks to change drivers’ attitudes towards road safety and speeding.
“Supported by our colleagues from roads policing, my officers will carry out dedicated high visibility patrols in the Formartine area to identify drivers whose driving falls below the required standard. Regular speed checks will also be carried out at a number of sites identified through intelligence and public consultation.
“My message to the communities of Formartine and those who travel throughout our towns and villages is clear.
“Drive in a manner which is suitable for the road and weather conditions, abide by the speed limits and respect the safety of others who use the roads.
“Those who choose to flaunt the law will be proactively targeted and dealt with robustly.”
Anyone wishing to report drivers for speeding or other road traffic offences should contact police on 101.
