Island MSPs have urged a rethink over the closure of the left luggage facility at Aberdeen railway station, which will be withdrawn next month.
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur and his Shetland counterpart Beatrice Wishart last night raised concerns their constituents will be disproportionately affected.
People in both areas have contacted the Northern Isles MSPs to describe the impact on those travelling to and from the islands on ferries.
Now the pair have written to Scotrail to demand that a workable alternative arrangement is put in place.
Scotrail says it is exploring the possibility of working with a retailer to provide a left luggage facility as part of an ongoing station redevelopment.
Mr McArthur said: “Though Scotrail claims they will look to have discussions with local retailers to see if an alternative left luggage service can be put in place, there is no detail of when this might happen or where it would be located.”
