Specialist law firm Cycle Law Scotland is working with Police Scotland in a national campaign to highlight the importance of all road users being seen during the winter months.
The #LightUp initiative will come to Aberdeen tomorrow and cyclists will receive a pack of front and rear bicycle lights to ensure they are visible to other roads users.
The event, which takes place at Aberdeen University between 4pm and 6pm, will feature the road policing division engaging with the public to spread the message about how best to keep safe in the bleak midwinter.
Both Edinburgh and Glasgow will also both host the #LightUp campaign in their cities.
Sergeant Dominic Doyle, from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Division said: “The majority of us use several different modes of transport and it is important to break down the ‘them and us’ mentality’ and all work together to promote road safety.”
Officers and Cycle Law Scotland will be joined by representatives from bus providers and haulage firms at a series of events during the week, with the campaign aiming to educate all road users about their respective responsibilities.
Jodi Gordon, a partner at Cycle Law Scotland added: “On a daily basis, we see the consequences of road traffic collisions between vulnerable road users and vehicles.
“Anything we can do to help educate road users and promote the legal requirement to #LightUp in order to see and be seen has got to be a good thing.”
