Works to install two pedestrian crossings on a busy Inverness road will resume this week.
Grounds works for a puffin crossings on between Glenurquhart Road and Smith Avenue, near the Scotmid store, will get under way today as contractors return to the site.
The crossing is one of two planned for the A82 Inverness to Glasgow road, with a second proposed between Montague Row and Ardross Street, near the council headquarters.
Works on the £130,000 project by Transport Scotland and Bear Scotland first began in January with hopes of phase one being completed by March, but due to Covid-19, the project came to a standstill.
From tonight, the team will begin putting down new road markings and high friction surfacing at the crossings location.
Eddie Ross, Bear Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “We’re pleased to continue with the next phase of this essential project on the A82 at Glenurquhart Road which will help create a safer and more accessible crossing point.
“Road safety is of highest importance at Bear Scotland and Transport Scotland, and this scheme on the A82 Glenurquhart Road in Inverness is part of our commitment to improving pedestrian facilities on the trunk road network.”
Work will be carried out between 7pm-7am.
Temporary traffics lights will be in place and there will be a 10mph convoy some nights.
The work comes after repeated campaigning for improved road safety measures across the busy stretch.
Councillor Bill Boyd said: “This has been a long time coming. It’s excellent.”
