Forecasted high winds are wreaking havoc across the transport network this morning, as warnings are put in place with some services cancelled.

The expected poor weather has already disrupted the train service between Kyle of Lochalsh and Inverness, with the 6.11am service cancelled and supplemented with a replacement bus service.

The replacement bus is anticipated to arrive in the Highland capital later than the original arrival time of 8.50am with users asked to factor this into their journey times.

Services between Inverness and Edinburgh are also to experience disruption today due to a train fault which will result in the train operating with three carriages rather than four.

Services affected include the 8.35am Edinburgh to Inverness, 12.49pm Inverness to Edinburgh, 3.56pm Inverness to Edinburgh and the 7.41pm Edinburgh to Inverness.

On the ferry network, a total of 28 out of the 29 routes under ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne’s control have been issued with warnings.

Gusts of more than 46mph on Uist have forced the cancellation of services on the Lochboisdale route.

The Mallaig and Oban services which service North Uist have been cancelled for the remainder the day with further disruption anticipated for Saturday and Sunday.

High winds forecasted on the west coast are liable to cause disruption with be aware warnings put in place on the Uig to Tarbert, Uig to Lochmaddy, Berneray to Leverburgh, Mallaig to Armadale and Mallaig to Small Isles routes.

The disruption comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning across the Highlands with “flooding likely”.

Updates on affected services are available through the ScotRail and Cal Mac websites.
