A Highland trunk road is to close overnight while resurfacing work is carried out later this month.
The A86 Spean Bridge to Kingussie road will be closed at Spean Bridge in Lochaber from 8pm on Sunday September 21 to 6am on Monday September 22, with traffic being allowed through every hour on the hour.
Trunk roads maintenance agency Bear Scotland has informed local businesses and residents of the work, which will continue between 7pm and 6am on the following two nights.
Stewart MacLean, of the A82 Partnership, said: “We are pleased that Traffic Scotland has taken into account some of the concerns of the local community and shortened the period over which the work is carried out.”
A spokesman for Bear Scotland said: “Resurfacing works on the A86 will be carried out between 8pm and 6am with a full road closure in place for the safety of the workforce.
“As no suitable diversion is available, traffic will be stacked and allowed through the closure at hourly intervals beginning at 9pm.
“Between the hourly intervals, vehicles travelling north are urged to wait in the Woollen Mill car park – 0.1 miles south of the A82/A86 junction – and southbound vehicles are urged to wait in the Commando Monument car park – 1 mile north of the A82/A86 junction.
“Once resurfacing is complete on the A86, the southbound lane of the A82, adjacent to the A82/A86 junction, will be resurfaced under a 10mph convoy working system. During this time access to the A86 will be prohibited.”
The A82 will remain open while work is carried out on the road on the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, with a 10mph convoy system in operation.
