British Transport Police are investigating after a man made intimidating comments to a young woman on an Aberdeen-bound train.
The 19-year-old was on the 5.35pm Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen train when the man began making intimidating comments, which she found threatening.
The incident happened on Wednesday, in Coach C of the train.
The man, who was under the influence of alcohol, is believed to be an offshore worker and described as being about 60.
He was about 6ft and of stocky build, and had a number of tattoos and teeth missing. He spoke with a Newcastle accent, and was wearing a dark tracksuit, black baseball cap and was carrying a grey and blue rucksack.
Constable Craig Allan said: “This sort of unwanted behaviour is not acceptable and I am appealing for anyone who was on the train and who witnessed his behaviour to come forward. My information is that he may be an offshore worker and CCTV is being reviewed to identify him.”
