Tailbacks as burst water main closes part of Aberdeen road
By
A burst water main has closed a section of one of Aberdeen’s busiest roads – causing large tailbacks.
Work to repair the main on Great Western Road is currently underway after the incident was reported earlier today.
One lane has been closed around the road’s busy junction with Anderson Drive.
Scottish Water is liaising with Aberdeen City Council and Bear Scotland to complete the works and have the lane reopened by tomorrow.
The water supply of nearby homes have not yet been affected.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: “Repair to a burst water main is underway on Great Western Road in Aberdeen. The lane closure is in place on the southbound carriageway at the junction of Great Western Road and Anderson Drive.
“Scottish Water aims to reinstate the road tomorrow and re-open the lane. This timescale is dependent on the locating and repairing the burst main.
“A Scottish Water squad is on site assessing the repair work and ensuring supplies remain in place for local customers. “Scottish Water apologise to any local residents or commuters affected by this urgent repair work.”
Traffic is said to be heavy around the junction.
